Okorocha wrestles Imo APC ticket from son in law.
Okorocha wrestles Imo APC guber ticket
from son-inlaw
Imo State Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, has
expectedly wrestled the gubernatorial ticket of the All
Progressives Congress, APC, from his son-inlaw, Mr. Uche
Nwosu, after failing to get his party’s nod for the
presidential slot.
A party loyalist, who spoke later to Vanguard on strict
grounds of anonymity, said: “The political turn of event
was expected. It must be recalled that no member of our
party expressed the desire to run for the office of governor.
The hoisting of Nwosu was a mere political gimmick that
was clinically geared towards fooling the uninformed”, the
party man said.
Answering another question, the man wondered when
Nwosu told anybody about his desire to run for the
governorship seat, adding that he was not even aware
when and where the APC gubernatorial primary took place
in the state.
Although careful political watchers in the state predicted
the unfolding drama long ago, the final handover of the
gubernatorial baton was consummated yesterday at the
International Conference Centre, ICC, Owerri.
The glaring absence of Chief Okorocha at the event, did
not stop the state APC loyalists from acting out the high
tension political drama.
Addressing party supporters, Mr. Nwosu explained that his
withdrawal from the gubernatorial race was purely hinged
on “personal reasons”.
He not only thanked the party for electing him as their flag
bearer, but also promised “to support whosoever will
emerge as the new APC candidate”, maintaining that “the
interest of Imolites, the party and Nigeria” was paramount
to him.
Speaking earlier, the Imo APC Electoral Committee
Chairman, Mr. John Alamba, recalled that Nwosu emerged
as the party’s candidate only a few days ago, during the
party gubernatorial primary.
While disclosing that APC constitution provides that if a
candidate withdraws, the party has the right to substitute
the candidate”, Alamba also pointed out that APC respects
the rule of law, as well as believes in observing democratic
principles.
Alamba then conducted what he called “a fresh APC
governorship primary”, which produced Chief Okorocha as
the new governorship flag bearer for the party.
Speaking on behalf of the Governor, the Director General,
Rochas Campaign Organization, Mr. Iheukwumere Alaribe,
expressed his gratitude to the delegates for voting
massively for his principal.

giving his acceptance speech, defeated four other

3,430 votes.
Kano State Governor, Engr. Musa Rabi’u Kwankwaso
surprisingly emerged first runner up with 974 votes
while a former vice president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar,

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State came fourth
with 624 votes while the Publisher of Leadership
Newspapers, Mr. Sam Nda-Isaiah, came a distant fifth

the convention attended by the leaders of the
opposition party.
With his victory, Mr. Buhari, 72, who was Nigeria’s
military leader between December 31, 1983 and
August 27, 1985 will now square up against President
Goodluck Jonathan, whose adoption was ratified by
the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, at its special
convention in the early hours of Thursday, in the
February 14 presidential election.
It would also be the fourth time the former military
ruler will be running for the highest office in the land.
He lost in all three previous electoral contests amid
allegations of rigging by the ruling PDP.

locations in Kano, residents and security officials have
told PREMIUM TIMES.
The blast occurred at a place known as “fillin parking”
along Ibrahim Taiwo Way, a major intersection leading
to the popular Kano Kantin Kwari Market.
Kantin Kwari textile market is rated the largest market
in northern Nigeria, with several thousands of traders
from all over Nigeria and neighbouring West African
countries doing business there on daily basis.
Details of the incident as well as casualty rate are still
sketchy at this time but the military is said to have

INEC Extend issuance of PVCs in Kaduna State.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on
Wednesday said the issuance of Permanent Voters’ Cards
(PVCs) in Kaduna State would continue in areas the
exercise was yet to start.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the
issuance of the cards, which began on Monday, was
scheduled to end on Wednesday.
The commission had supplied only two million cards out of
the 3.5 million to be issued to verified voters in the state.
It had said that the balance of 1.5 million cards would be
supplied to it at a later date from Lagos.
Consequently, the issuance of the cards has not
commenced in many polling units across the state.
The commission, in a statement signed by the Resident
Electoral Commissioner, Haliru Tambawel, made available
to NAN in Kaduna, stated that lapses emanated from it and
would, therefore,“not penalise the general public through
no fault of theirs”.
It stated that the exercise would not end on Wednesday in
places it was yet to start.
It said “the commencement of the exercise in any local
government area, wards and polling units affected will be
the first day of the exercise in such areas”.
INEC also reminded prospective voters that the collection
of the PVCs was a continuous exercise until a day to the
2015 general election.

Obasanjo launches his Autobiography, Says Yar'adua Lied to him about his health.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo launched his
controversial autobiography ‘My Watch’ at the Lagos
Country club Ikeja, Lagos today Dec. 9th. Guest at the
event included former VC of the University of Lagos,
Prof. Ibidapo Obe and former Minister of Education,
Oby Ezekwesili.
According to reports, one of the chapters of the book
titled “To be or not to be, Jonathan” Obasanjo said he
was deceived by late President Umaru Yar’Adua about
his health status before facilitating his emergence as
the PDP flag bearer in 2007.
In the book, Obasanjo was quoted to have said;
“As can be expected, I was heavily involved
in the transition and exit process that saw
me leaving office for my successor, Umaru
Yar’Adua, as recounted in Chapter Thirty-
seven, the ninth chapter of the second
volume of this book. The unprepared and
unplanned transition from Yar’Adua to
Jonathan was a more difficult exercise in
some respects. One reason was the ‘cloak
and dagger’ manner in which Yar’Adua’s
illness was handled. The illness of a
President cannot be regarded as private. His
health has implications for the security and
wellbeing of the nation. For the president
and those around him to have attempted
strenuously to keep the fact of the severity
of his illness from public smacks of
ignorance of the enormity of what the job
entails and the level of provinciality of their
understanding, attitude, and approach. I
remember that in 1978 or 1979 Chief
Awolowo visited me while I was military
head of state and shared with me how he
would always stay at home to attend to the
work at hand and only make a private visit
to the UK once a year for health reasons if
he became president of Nigeria. I made it
clear to the chief that once he became
president of Nigeria, he could have no
private visit to anywhere as such. Wherever
he would be, he would be on duty, and the
totality of his life would be public. I jokingly
added that the only privacy he might lay
claim to would be when he was at home
with Mama Chief H.I.D., and that even then
his security staff would be on twenty-four-
hour duty.”
The launch of the three volume book was stopped by
a court injunction secured by a former friend of
Obasanjo, Prince Buruji Kashamuon on Friday
December 5th but lawyers to Chief Obasanjo advised
him to go ahead with the launch.

was shot dead at her home last night by her husband,
rapper Earl Hayes, who then turned the gun on
himself. Earl, who is a member of boxer Floyd
Mayweather’s Money Team. Earl was said to have
been haunted by Stephanie’s infidelity and recently
accused her of cheating with singer Trey Songs.
Neighbours of the couple called the police after they
heard gun shots from the couple’s LA home and heard
Stephanie screaming. When police got there, they
found the bodies of Stephanie and Earl. And there
even reports that Floyd witnessed the murder via
Facetime.
Sources connected with Hayes tell us …
around 2 years ago he separated from
Stephanie because of what he says was her
affair with Songz. They got back together
but, as one friend put it, “He was crushed
and never got over it.” We’re told he
frequently brought up Songz.
Hayes accused Moseley of having multiple
affairs with various other entertainers. She
was a backup dancer who worked with
numerous famous singers, including Chris
Brown andUsher , but we’re told Hayes
never mentioned them as a source of
conflict.
Hayes and Moseley married in 2008 and his
friends say he loved her and tried
rationalizing staying together.
“Floyd Mayweather was on FaceTime with
one of his best friends when the guy pulled
out a gun, shot his wife and then killed
himself … TMZ has learned.
Sources tell us … rapper Earl Hayes called
Floyd on FaceTime Monday morning in a
rage, over claims his wife — VH1 star
Stephanie Moseley — had been unfaithful.
According to our Floyd sources, Earl said he
was going to kill his wife. The champ was
pleading with him to get a grip … to no
avail. Floyd will not say how much he saw,
but he acknowledges he was a witness and
heard everything.
Floyd is in shock and is having extreme
difficulty dealing with the fact that he
witnessed a horrifying murder/suicide.” TMZ

Chris Brown tweeted his condolences “RIP baby girl.
Danced with me on tour and was always the coolest

Chris Brown is a liar, Karrueche is not even my type-Drake Says.
Drake is mad that Chris Brown mentioned his name in
his problems with Karrueche. He says there’s no truth
to the dating allegations. Chris had accused Karrueche
of cheating on him with Drake…
From TMZ
Drake is furious that Chris Brown has used
him as a scapegoat in his breakup with
Karrueche Tran … deflecting his own
responsibility by suggesting she was his side
piece.
Brown re-ignited his feud with Drake by
Instagraming Saturday that Drake secretly
dated Karrueche earlier this year while Chris
rotted away in a jail cell.
Sources connected with Drake say there’s
no truth to the dating allegation … he says
Karrueche isn’t even his type.
As one source puts it, “Drake’s an a*s man.
Think about it, all the strippers he gets with
… the first out of his type was Rihanna .”
Drake acknowledges he hung out with
Karrueche in Toronto … but only because
she was friends with a girl who he was
hooking up with.
Karrueche has jumped into the fray …
claiming Chris repeatedly “mistreated” her.
Given the Rihanna backdrop, that word is
loaded.
Ronaldo (CR7) Sets hat-trick Record
Ronaldo sets hat-trick record
Cristiano Ronaldo’s record-breaking hat-trick helped Real
Madrid equal another Spanish league milestone in a 3-0
win over Celta Vigo on Saturday, AFP reports.
His 23rd career hat trick in La Liga gave him one more
treble than greats Alfredo Di Stefano and Telmo Zarra.
Ronaldo’s 21st, 22nd and 23rd goals through 14 rounds
also ensured Madrid claimed its 18th consecutive victory
across all competitions under coach Carlo Ancelotti,
matching a mark for Spanish teams established by
Barcelona in 2005-06.
Madrid maintained the league lead, four points ahead of
Atletico Madrid after the defending champions won 2-0 at
Elche and before Barcelona played Espanyol on Sunday.
Ronaldo opened at the Santiago Bernabeu from the penalty
spot in the 36th minute after he fell following light contact
with a defender. He struck again in the 65th and 81st.
“It’s a privilege to play with (Ronaldo),” Madrid defender
Sergio Ramos said. “You would have to invent words to
describe him. He may be in his best moment.”
Ronaldo received a standing ovation when substituted late,
after taking his overall tally to 29 goals in 21 games this
season.
He led the Spanish league with 31 goals last season.
Lionel Messi holds the record for the most goals in a Liga
campaign with 50 in 2011-12.
Ronaldo is already well on pace to repeat not only as the
league’s top scorer – Neymar is second with 11 – but he is
also making a strong bid to defend his award for the
world’s best player.
Madrid’s commanding win was marred only by losing
James Rodriguez, who asked to be changed and walked
off the pitch in the 53rd.
Celta defender Gustavo Cabral suffered a more painful
injury later and had to be carried off.
Ronaldo flirted with the goal in the 18th when he looped
an acrobatic bicycle kick onto the top of the net before he
tested Sergio Alvarez with a strike from Marcelo’s pass.
Marcelo continued to torment Celta’s defense with his
incursions from the left flank, and his cross led to the
opening goal when Ronaldo collapsed after defender
Jonathan “Jonny” Castro touched his arm.
“It was a little unfair, we were in the game until then,”
Jonny said. “I touched him but he fell at the last moment.”
Celta’s Fabian Orellana finally threatened with a curling
shot that missed the post one minute after halftime, but
Ronaldo sealed the win by stabbing home the ball after
Madrid hemmed Celta into its box.
He got his third goal from another cross by Marcelo,
expertly using his left boot to score.
Atletico churned out the win at Elche with defender Jose
Gimenez firing in the first goal in the 17th to end a
dizzying series of one-touch passes by Siqueira, Jorge
“Koke” Resurreccion and Arda Turan from a set piece.
Striker Mario Mandzukic finished Elche off in the 53rd by
sprinting onto Gabi Fernandez’s lob and firing the ball
inside the post.
Also, promoted Cordoba’s 42-year wait for a top-tier
victory finally ended by winning 1-0 at Athletic Bilbao,
while Malaga won 1-0 at Deportivo La Coruna to rest in
sixth place overnight.
Cordoba hadn’t won in 13 league games this season after
returning to the top flight for the first time since 1972.
Boko Haram abducts 20 more girls in Borno. ..
The Boko Haram sect has reportedly abducted over 20
girls in Lassa, a town in Borno State.
Quoting a member of the community, Daniel Ibrahim,
SaharaReporters stated that the Boko Haram sect also
killed many people, mostly old men and women, before
they kidnapped the women.
SaharaReporters also stated that a security source
confirmed the report.
“They [Boko Haram] abducted more than 20 girls from our
town and killed many people, mostly old men and
women,” the online medium quoted Ibrahim.
Ibrahim, who said he survived the attack, revealed that the
insurgents had been advancing toward Lassa since late
November but had met stiff resistance from local fighters
until Wednesday.
He said the insurgents attacked the town last Wednesday
with a variety of heavy weaponry, including tanks and
explosives. They were finally able to overwhelm the local
opposition and capture the town.
“They burnt almost half of the town before they left. Those
of us who were lucky fled, but they massacred aged ones
and the younger men they could catch,” the source stated.
He said the town fell to the insurgents because the
residents’ appeals to security agencies to deploy more
troops and to step up land and air operations were
ignored.
“That’s why the town is now in the hands of Boko
Haram,” he said.
A senior military officer attached to the 7th Division of the
Nigerian Army based in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno
State, confirmed that the military was aware of the
development in Lassa.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has said that
Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, has been thrown
into complete blackout as a result of the activities of the
Boko Haram sect.
Government said the major power substation that supplied
electricity to the city had been blown off by the sect on
more than one occasion.
Minister of State for Power, Mr. Mohammed Wakil, said
engineers from the Transmission Company of Nigeria had
fixed the substation and other vandalised installations in
the past, adding that the military had advised the ministry
to refrain from visiting the area as it was a “danger zone.”
The minister spoke to journalists in Abuja.
He said, “If you can recall clearly you will know that the
first local government they (Boko Haram) took over was
Damboa. That is my local government. Now because of
the crossfire they had with the battalion, they ended up in
not only vandalising some of the power installations in the
region but they also burnt the major substation in that city.
“That substation in Damboa is one of the biggest
substations in the North and it links Gombe with
Maiduguri. That led to the collapse of power in Maiduguri
and the city is in blackout. I summoned the TCN and
talked to them that they must restore power in the area.
The TCN mobilised its team and were ready, but that area
is a danger zone.”

The warning comes as Whitehall officials

“We have many scares but this one nearly

The threat is still alive and real.”
The plot, which has been known about for
the past two months, is thought to involve

bound for major European destinations
before Christmas.
Boko Haram now uses Cows to launch attacks.
Security agents have discovered that
insurgent group, Boko Haram has
launched a new strategy of bomb attacks
and are now using cows as moving IED’s.
The Federal government yesterday said the
insurgents have strapped bombs to cows
and herded the cows to human settlements
before detonating the explosives.
Boko Haram has been terrorizing the nation
since 2009.
The Director General of National Orientation

the Coordinator of the National Information

briefing in Abuja but did not say if this
method has been used by the insurgents.
He also talked on the situation in the North
east and said: “ The situation in Yobe and
Maiduguri is calm… The situation has
returned to normal. “Like Maiduguri, the
insurgents have resorted to other means of

use bombs; they strap bombs around
human beings.
“Sometimes, they strap bombs around
cows, and push them to settlements. “That

Sam Godwin, in front of Junior Secondary School, Gosa, Abuja.
Mrs. Juliana Godwin, a 42-year-old Junior
Secondary School I (JSSI) student of Junior
Secondary School, Gosa, Abuja, has become
one of those persons with strong will to
change her condition.
Mrs. Godwin, who hails from Riyom in Riyom
Local Government Area of Plateau State, had
her education stalled by lack of sponsorship, a
situation that made her to drop out, in 1983,
of LEA Primary School, Riyom.
“I had to leave for Jos in 1983, since my
father could no longer sponsor my education
to secondary school because he had no
money. While I was with my cousin, I enrolled
in a tailoring shop to learn dress making. I
completed it within a year and six months”,
she told Sunday Vanguard.
In 2001, she and her children left Jos to join
her husband in Abuja, where they live at Gosa
village, along Airport Road.
An industrious woman, Godwin became the
bread-winner of her family. Since had skill in
hair plaiting, that became a source of
livelihood for her and the family. Later she
ventured into hawking of water in a basin in
Gosa market to boost the family’s income.
“In 2003, I was able to save some money from
water hawking. I started pepper and tomato
business with N1,000 from the savings. I also
went into corn roasting business, but my
husband stopped me from the business in
2007,” she said.
In 2008, Godwin decided to go into vocational
training with a non-governmental organisation
called Refocusing Nigerian Talents
Organisation, RENITO, where she was trained
in soap (liquid, medicated and bar), pomade
and disinfectants production.
“Now I can produce and sell the products I
was trained on, and I started with N1,500”,
Mrs. Godwin narrated.
“I came to realise that the business was
lucrative and helpful to me and my family. I
decided to make savings towards going back
to school after I dropped out in 1983.
“My husband was against my decision and
quarrelled seriously with me. But I didn’t give
up on my decision. In 2013, I went on to enrol
at Junior Secondary School, Gosa, Airport
Road, Abuja, where I started in JSS I F. I was
able to raise N10, 000 to pay for admission
expenses.
“Why I decided to start from JSSI was
because I had never in my life stepped into
the four walls of a secondary school. I told
myself I will start from JSS I, as it will help me
to have the foundation of secondary school
education and to understand what I would be
taught.
“My principal was surprised and asked me
whether I could cope with secondary school
education as an adult and a married woman.
He and the staff also encouraged me to
continue since I had made up my mind. But
my husband continued making trouble to stop
me”.
She wants her teachers and principal to treat
her just like other students notwithstanding
her age or as a mother, because she wishes
pass through the school system, and is ready
to accept every academic and moral discipline
that will shape her future.
“I am the oldest person in the class of 80
students. I participate in every school activity,
and I am happy with that. Even when I come
late to school, the teachers do punish me just
like other students, and I have no problem
with that, but I do behave myself as an adult.”
She is a mother of four children, who she
sponsors to the tune of N9,700 in a session
while she also takes care of the family’s
upkeep. “I have seen great changes in my life,
and I am coping seriously. My aim is to study
marketing in the university after I would have
completed my senior secondary education”,
she added.
